Syria: Ali Habib – ‘The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated’

The “news” that Ali Habib, the former Minister of Defense had been found dead at his home, shot, spread this morning on twitter. The information seems to have been published first in english on the homepage of DEBKAfile, an Israeli “newssite”. Twitter is good tool for spreading information – and desinformation. And spread it did.

This evening, about 1 1/2 hours ago Ali Habib went on Syrian TV to denounce the rumors – or news as it was claimed to be – that he was dead, murdered on order by Bashar al-Assad. A sombering moment, one would hope, that one should check the sources and their credibility before going ‘all in’ with a story. For those of you (like me) who do not have access to Syrian TV here is the article on SANA.

One Response to Syria: Ali Habib – ‘The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated’

  1. Doc says:

Quite sad, as I believe it to be intentional. This weekend there was the news from Syrian opposition sources that a UN report confirmed the involvement of Hezbollah in the killings in Syria. Turned out it was made up. No UN report carried this information.
